At ReThink Counseling, I hope to increase access to destigmatized and personalized mental health care for all. Our society as a whole is progressing in this area, but mental health stigma is still a pervasive problem that has caused significant gaps in understanding what counseling is and how it can be helpful. My family faced the consequences of this stigma at a time when we desperately needed support. It’s what inspired my mission to educate people about the value of therapy. As a Black therapist, I am passionate about offering representation to clients who don't often see themselves reflected in their healthcare providers. My clients often describe me as warm, empathetic, validating, and open-minded—stating they feel safe and comfortable working with me.
I received a master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling from Louisiana State University and am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor Intern (LCDC-I) in the State of Texas. I have worked in a variety of clinical contexts, including behavioral health hospitals, substance abuse rehabilitation centers, and private practice settings. Before becoming a therapist, I was an elementary school teacher for seven years. I learned from this time that no two people learn the same, a principle I continue to apply in my therapeutic practice. I believe mental health care should be tailored to the unique needs of each client.
I am accepting new clients and am available to work with individuals, couples, and families. Common concerns I address include anxiety, depression, life transitions, women’s issues, relationship stress, grief & loss, and addiction recovery, to name a few. I also have a heart for individuals seeking support for the first time, as it wasn’t long ago that I had my own reservations about taking such a big step. With consistent effort and teamwork, you will learn to better tolerate life’s daily stressors, regulate overwhelming emotions, and unlearn thought patterns and behaviors that no longer serve you.
You don't have to do this alone! Let me help you step out of the shadows of stigma and move into the light of healing. Still unsure? Reach out today for a free 15-minute consultation to assess your needs and determine whether we may be a good fit!
Therapy can seem intimidating. Everyone is talking about it, but what can you expect? You can expect a warm safe atmosphere to lay down that baggage you've been carrying. You can expect to feel seen and heard without judgment. You can feel empowered to achieve your goals. Allow me to walk alongside you on this incredible journey!
